Elliptorhina chopardi are an average sized species of Cockroach, growing to around 4cm, though quite small compared to other Hissing Cockroaches found on Madagascar, like they're much larger relatives they also hiss loudly when startled.
Like many other Cockroaches they give birth to live young, they grow fairly slowly and can live for over 2 years.
E. chopardi are fairly easy to keep in captivity, I keep my ones fairly humid, they are misted lightly daily, they prefer to eat fruits, like apple and banana, but will eat lettuce and other vegetables. They can climb smooth surfaces, a layer of petroleum jelly across the top of they're housing is a good way to prevent escapes.
